Hi - I'm Steve Weeres

I enjoy all kinds of outdoor activities, especially those on the water. But in the winter, I always found it challenging to know when the ice was safe enough to venture out.

And since I'm an electrical engineer with a background in the Internet of Things (IoT) concepts, I became curious about finding a way to identify the thickness of the ice without walking on a lake or river.

So I set out to see if I could develop a buoy that could measure ice thickness in the spot where the buoy was located and transmit the measurement remotely. After several years of research and prototyping, my first product, ICESPY™, was created. Since then, Winter Recreation Technologies has developed a suite of products, including PONDWATCH™ and LAKESCOUT™.

​I'm excited to introduce this technology to the market, so that people who work or play on the water save time and don't venture onto ice when conditions are unsafe.
